Rett Syndrome: What Do General Pediatric Providers Need to Know to Enhance Care? (CME/CE Monograph)
Activity Description and Purpose
Pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants in the primary care setting are responsible for the ongoing care of patients with Rett syndrome. Because of the rareness of the disorder, pediatric clinicians need education on best practices and multidisciplinary care of these complex patients. This educational activity will provide them with the skills to identify subtle signs and symptoms of Rett syndrome during the early stages of the disorder so that referral can be made in a timely manner. Pediatric clinicians will also become familiar with the guidelines that are important for this disease so they may consistently practice guideline-based multidisciplinary care. Finally, experts will provide a clear breakdown of the clinical data for the newly approved treatment trofinetide and the emerging agent blarcamesine.
Target Audience
This educational activity is intended for general pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, participants will be better able to:
- Identify subtle signs and symptoms of Rett syndrome during the early stages of the disorder
- Identify guidelines used for patients with Rett syndrome
- Employ guideline-based multidisciplinary care to individualize care of patients with Rett syndrome
- Analyze recent clinical trial data of new and emerging disorder-specific therapies for Rett syndrome
