Activity Description and Purpose
Parkinsons disease psychosis (PDP), particularly with behavioral manifestations, is a complex debilitating condition that needs early identification and treatment with nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic interventions. Advanced practice nurses are at the forefront of managing and coordinating care of patients with PDP, especially in the long-term care setting. The desired results of this activity are for advanced practice nurses to become more adept at identifying PDP and develop person-centered nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic management plans for older adults with PDP who exhibit behavioral disturbances.
Target Audience
This educational activity is intended for advanced practice nurses and other clinicians caring for patients with Parkinsons disease psychosis.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, participants will be better able to:
- Identify the signs and symptoms of Parkinsons disease psychosis
- Design person-centered nonpharmacologic management plans for older adults with Parkinsons disease psychosis who exhibit behavioral disturbances
- Develop person-centered pharmacologic management plans for older adults with Parkinsons disease psychosis
