Activity Description and Purpose

Geographic atrophy is a growing health care concern for retina specialists caring for an aging population. In the first part of this podcast series titled Improving Outcomes in Patients With Geographic Atrophy, experts Arshad Khanani, MD, and Lejla Vajzovic, MD, will educate learners on the disease epidemiology, pathophysiology, and relevant clinical features of geographic atrophy on imaging. The discussion will include didactic information presented by these experts and real-world case studies.

Target Audience

This educational activity is intended for retina specialists and other ophthalmologists.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants will be better able to:

  • Recognize epidemiologic indicators of patients at risk for geographic atrophy
  • Describe the pathophysiology of geographic atrophy related to the complement cascade
  • Review the clinically relevant features of geographic atrophy on imaging
