This educational activity has expired. You will not be able to claim credit for this activity.
Activity Description and Purpose
Experts discuss challenging cases in adult and pediatric/neonatal parenteral nutrition (PN), providing evidence-based best practices and practical approaches for incorporating lipids into PN regimens for hospital and home adult patients and hospital pediatric/neonatal patients. Topics include avoidance of essential fatty acid deficiency, managing patients at risk for intestinal failure–associated liver disease, and appropriate use of lipid injectable emulsions in a variety of patients. This webcast captures the proceedings from a CE/CME symposium held at ASPEN 2023. The desired results of this educational activity are to increase knowledge of best practices in PN, thus increasing competence among clinicians in dosing and providing lipid injectable emulsions safely in adult and pediatric patients.
Target Audience
This educational activity is intended for dietitians, pharmacists, nurses, and physicians engaged in the care of adult and pediatric/neonatal patients requiring parenteral nutrition.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, participants will be better able to:
- Describe the dosing of various lipid injectable emulsions to prevent essential fatty acid deficiency in adult and pediatric patients
- Demonstrate appropriate use of lipid injectable emulsions in hospital and home adult patients
- Demonstrate appropriate use of lipid injectable emulsions in pediatric/neonatal patients at risk for intestinal failure–associated liver disease
