Target Audience

This educational activity is intended for dietitians, pharmacists, nurses, and physicians engaged in the care of adult and pediatric/neonatal patients requiring parenteral nutrition.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants will be better able to:

  • Select the appropriate dose of various intravenous lipid emulsions to prevent essential fatty acid deficiency in adult and pediatric patients
  • Summarize recent guidelines for provision of intravenous lipid emulsions in preterm infants
  • Illustrate appropriate use of intravenous lipid emulsions in pediatric/neonatal patients at risk for intestinal failure–associated liver disease
  • Illustrate appropriate use of intravenous lipid emulsions in hospital and home adult patients with comorbidities
